#Microsoft #Surface prices released – $499

October 16, 2012 Leave a comment

Microsoft has now released the price of the Surface RT model!

Now we’ll see how it will be received by the market. Will users buy it? Are corporations ready to adopt them as BYOD devices or will they now see a tablet that they could introduce more quickly as a part of the managed client services?

Microsoft Prices Surface Starting at $499 to Rival IPad

A lot of questions and we’ll see how it goes….

Will I buy one? Don’t think so…. Will U? But I guess that this is easier for IT to adopt as an “OK” device for different reasons I’ve heard even though I don’t necessarily agree. Stop managing the devices and the old way of thinking, manage and control the apps, data/info and IPR and ensure that you’re device independent!

NetScaler SDX – value add, #CitrixSynergy #NetScaler

October 16, 2012 Leave a comment

Sitting here listening to the SDX model and its capabilities etc. And I must agree that the concept is great in terms of isolation, flexibility, density and other added values that the platform provides…

But I still see the need for the same SDX model on the smaller appliances where you may need the capabilities of feature isolation etc but where you don’t need the performance/throughput etc. of the larger appliances where the SDX model starts.

If you look at the NetScaler data sheet I can’t understand why you don’t get the SDX model option on for instance the 8200 box and why not down to the 5500?

More on my thoughts on this from my previous blog can be found here.

#CitrixSummit Day 2…

October 16, 2012 Leave a comment

Ok, first day is over and right now I’m sitting in a VDI-in-a-Box session that is the first session day 2.

So the question is whether day 1 was; Bad, Ok or Great? This is a bit hard to summarize though there are many aspects to take into consideration of course. But to summarize day 1 from a technical aspect I must say that it was OK. I would have liked to see some more details and end-to-end alignment of all the products in the stack but the week isn’t over yet. 😉

One product that I’ve not worked with before most likely due to my customer type is VDI-in-a-Box. I must say that the product seems to be maturing and is getting ready and I can definitely see a use case for it within the SMB market and also for remote offices where local desktops are needed in the larger corporations where XenDesktop is not justifiable.

Speed, agility and scalability capabilities are there… Now I’d just like to see how it can be tied into the rest of the stack of products and get my hands dirty and try it out in detail.

But the rest of the day has some interesting sessions and meetings where I’ll follow up on the list of enhancement requests that I gathered in a previous post.

And of course it’s great to see all the partners that are here and the whole socializing and networking aspects which is great. If I was Mark I would really be thankful for the commitment that these partners are doing!

Have a great day all!

Cheers!

October 15, 2012 Leave a comment

Ok, it’s going to be an interesting week with Citrix Summit & Synergy here in Barcelona where I think we all have high expectations that Citrix will blow our minds with new innovations, evolution of existing products and services etc.!

I’ll try to report as much as possible and especially follow-up on the list of enhancements and issues that we partners and customers see out there while bringing the Citrix products into services; what we expect from Citrix.

Right now I’ll dive into an AppDNA session!

So stay tuned and then we’ll see how this week turns out! 🙂

Cheers!

New security threat at work: Bring-your-own-network

October 12, 2012 Leave a comment

Computerworld – Even as IT pros wrestle with the bring-your-own-device (BYOD) trend, corporate security is being further complicated by another emerging trend: bring your own network (BYON).

BYON is a by-product of increasingly common technology that allows users to create their own mobile networks, usually through mobile wireless hotspots. Security professionals say BYON requires a new approach to security because some internal networks may now be as insecure as consumer devices.

Jim Kunick, an attorney with the Chicago law firm Much Shelist, said BYON represents a more dangerous threat to data security than employees who bring their own smartphones or tablets into the office. “The network thing blows this up completely, because it takes the data out of the network the company protects,” he said. “There’s no way to ensure the security of that data. People are running corporate apps and processing corporate and client data using networks that may or may not be secure.

“I mean, no one is sure the Boingo network is secure,” he said.

Participating Remotely to OpenStack Summit 2012

October 11, 2012 Leave a comment

“If you can’t make it to San Diego but you still want to participate in the sessions that will shape the future roadmap of OpenStack ‘Grizzly’ you can join the live audio streaming events on Webex. Kindly donated by Cisco Webex team (users of OpenStack themselves), the Webex session will run for the whole day from 9:30am to 6:00pm for each of the rooms Emma ABEmma CWindsor BCAnnie AB where the Design Summit will happen. Webex will be used to stream the audio of all conversations in the room where there will be enough microphones: remote participants will use the Webex chat to ask questions and people in the rooms will see the chat stream on one of the two projectors in each room.

The sessions are ready for you to register, they’re identified by topic (Nova, Quantum, Cinder, Documentation, Common, Process, Swift):

Also, each entry on the official schedule of the Design Summit has a link to its proper Webex audio streaming session. There will also be a live video streaming for the general sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday. Keep an eye on the website and twitter for  details.

Known issue: Webex doesn’t support Java 64bit on Linux. If you try to join the voip conference Webex will complain that “The Audio Device is Unaccessible Now”. The most common workaround is to install 32bit Java environment alongside the 64bit one.”

Why It’s Finally Time To Break Up Hewlett-Packard

October 11, 2012 Leave a comment

It’s really sad seeing HP perform so bad… They have some really good products, services and employees, but I guess that they need to do some “cleaning”. And foremost form a strategy and plan for the company that both shareholders and employees believe in… and that’s probably the biggest problem; no one is is taking control over this huge ship and start executing towards the goal.
